Is your child addicted to gaming? Consider WHO review….

Internet have transformed the world drastically. It has made communications across the globe so convenient and has brought in lot of benefits but with it follows some risks as well.sometimes I candidly ponder upon the parenting challenges. It wasn’t enough that the adolescent age would throw challenging times at us as parents when we heard things like” what would you know about this or that?, or please don’t embarrass me in front of my friends”, it really takes enormous efforts to control your anger and emotions in order to just let them be. However, now even further, the technology has increased the level of challenges faced by parents…the kids are simply addicted to screen be it of mobile, iPad or laptops and guess what it also snatched away our right to be parents with credibility! The other day, one child in grade 4 was talking to her friend about the most famous series of story known as Harry Potter, but she was confused in saying out the full name of the main lead, so her mum who was sitting beside them tried to help her with the correct name.Mumma’s little girl quickly responded by saying ” Mom, Thank you for helping but I will confirm it from google just to be sure !” Children trust Dr. Google more than their parents. No matter what we as parents go through, we need to be alert and aware for wellness of our kids at all times. The games these kids play are not just for some time but now it has been observed that some kids spend more than half of their day in playing the games on Internet. No doubt that lifestyle diseases are at its peak among young adolescents and such an unfortunate sight it is to see very young kids not engaging in any sports and preferring to sit at home rather with their iPads. In fact the recent report of WHO confirms that gaming is actually an addiction among young population.

I can only suggest you parents to not panic and rather consult a psychologist who is qualified and follow the treatment procedure. The addiction to certain games can also be just an escape from reality for your teen specially, so, try to communicate more and meaningfully lead the conversations which allows him or her to express her or his emotions, troubles, etc. let them take responsibility of certain household chores and give them tasks which can enhance their confidence, acknowledge the achievements even if it is just about them getting you a glass of water or holding the door for anyone else. Such appreciation can bring in lot of positivity in them. You can only test this once you start implementing these steps into your parenting.Teenagers are more prone to get addicted to such distractions often because their needs are many and resources to fulfilling those needs are either not available or are distorted.

So, before it gets to your child, you be that confident hero parent and lend a helping hand to your child may be it is your presence that is all needed to cut him off from this addiction.

Happy parenting! Do tell me what are your views about the same and do tell me if I can be of any help regarding mental health issues if any! Thanks for stopping by to read. Keep smiling!
